Preview: Cardinal Mooney Cougars vs. Canterbury Cougars
The Cardinal Mooney Cougars will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against the Canterbury Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th. Cardinal Mooney will be strutting in after a win while Canterbury will be coming in after a loss.
Cardinal Mooney had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past Bradenton Christian, posting a 73-30 victory on the road. Given Cardinal Mooney's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Bradenton Christian is ranked 187th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cardinal Mooney's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kali Barrett led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Barrett has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bri Behn, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 assists.
Meanwhile, Canterbury ended up a good deal behind Bishop Verot on Friday and lost 50-32.
Cardinal Mooney has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. As for Canterbury, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-8.
