Soccer Recap: Derby Takes a Loss

After flying high against Salina South on Tuesday, Derby came back down to earth. The Panthers fell just short of the Hutchinson Salthawks by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Derby were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Hutchinson apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Derby's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-4. As for Hutchinson, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-1-1 and their overall record up to 6-4-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Derby is set to face off against their familiar foe Valley Center on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hutchinson will challenge rival Maize at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
