Softball Game Preview: Kenmore West Blue Devils vs. Grand Island Vikings

The Kenmore West Blue Devils will challenge the Grand Island Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Kenmore West will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Lockport on Wednesday. The Blue Devils blew past the Lions 18-12. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Ally Foglia and Delaney Kenerson did most of the damage at the plate: Foglia got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Kenerson went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Julia Vuich, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Grand Island earned a 7-4 win over Niagara Falls on Wednesday.

Natalie Kopf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Avery McNulty was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those runs were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalie Farkas, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

The victory got Grand Island back to even at 2-2. As for Kenmore West, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Kenmore West might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Grand Island in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
