Baseball Recap: Somerset Briar Jumpers vs. Whitley County Colonels

Somerset was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell just short of the Whitley County Colonels by a score of 6-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Somerset of the 4-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Connor Roberts put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Roberts has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive pitching appearances. Roberts was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Blake Abbott was cooking despite his team's loss, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-4.

On Whitley County's side, Bradyn Bargo tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits.

At the plate, Hunter Wilson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.

Somerset's defeat dropped their record down to 15-11. As for Whitley County, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.
