Preview: Canadian Wildcats vs. Gunter Tigers

Two dominant signal callers in Camren Cavalier and Walker Overman are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Canadian Wildcats are on the road again on Friday and play against the Gunter Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on December 8th. Canadian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 matchups -- so hopefully Gunter likes a good challenge.

Canadian extended their postseason success on Friday against Wall. They enjoyed a cozy 31-12 victory over the Hawks. Canadian's victory was all the more impressive since Wall was averaging only nine points allowed on the season.

It was another big night for Cavalier, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, and also threw for 237 yards and a touchdown while completing 86.7% of his passes. Cavalier has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last four times he's played.

The team's defense also helped out by holding Wall to a paltry 249 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Canadian's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out eight times before it was all said and done. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.

Meanwhile, Gunter put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Jacksboro with a sharp 55-33 victory. Fans of Gunter have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.

Overman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 216 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per carry, and also throwing for 123 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes.

Canadian's victory bumped their record up to 14-0. As for Gunter, they pushed their record up to 14-0 with that win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Canadian and Gunter were almost perfectly matched up in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, but Canadian suffered an agonizing 21-20 defeat. Can Canadian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
