Baseball Recap: Ramona Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Ramona dropped their record down to 11-7 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They lost 10-3 to the Escondido Cougars. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Bulldogs, who until this contest were averaging 3.83 runs allowed.

Derek Taylor made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Blake Hollopeter, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

As for Escondido, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. The result was nothing new for Escondido, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Escondido's side, Ronnie Witt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. Witt has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Makaih Gonzalez was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Ryder Taylor was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

While Ramona had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
