Basketball Recap: Olivia Ferguson Key Part of a Team Effort in Indians Win

Stafford hadn't done well against Riverbend recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Stafford Indians secured a 53-49 W over the Riverbend Bears. For the Indians, this counts as revenge for the 58-23 win the Bears walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Stafford's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Olivia Ferguson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Ferguson has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Annalise Mcconnell, who posted 13 points and six rebounds.

Loss or not, Riverbend got some senior leadership from Charlotte Mullinax and Nyah Barnwell. Mullinax went 7 for 13 on her way to 18 points and six boards, while Barnwell earned ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. Sabrina Alexander was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Stafford has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Riverbend, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-6.

Stafford has already played their next contest, a 44-33 victory against Brooke Point on the 24th. As for Riverbend, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 51-21 win against Mountain View on the 24th.
