St. Petersburg had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Pinellas Park Patriots with a sharp 3-0 win on Tuesday. The Green Devils have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Patriots, too.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: St. Petersburg took every set by at least 13 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-6, 25-12, 25-11.

St. Petersburg can attribute much of their success to Maeve Overcast, who had 11 digs and three aces. The dominant performance also gave Overcast a new career-high in assists (two).

Overcast wasn't the only good server: St. Petersburg was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Coming up, St. Petersburg is taking a road trip to take on Gibbs at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pinellas Park, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Dunedin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
