Baseball Game Preview: Westfall Mustangs vs. Madison Plains Golden Eagles

Westfall is 7-1 against Madison Plains since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Mustangs will look to defend their home field against the Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Westfall is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

On Wednesday, Westfall sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Huntington. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Huntsmen recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Rick Hanley was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Brendan Biegler was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Westfall was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madison Plains). They were the clear victors by a 19-9 margin over Greenon on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by nine runs or more this season.

Westfall's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Madison Plains, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Westfall has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Madison Plains struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Westfall got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 against Madison Plains by a conclusive 9-1 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Golden Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
