Soccer Game Preview: South Point vs. Hickory

The South Point Red Raiders will face off against the Hickory Red Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as South Point comes in on four and Hickory on three.

South Point is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was the Red Raiders who were credited with the win. South Point got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to East Lincoln's two. The game was the first time South Point have beaten East Lincoln on their pitch since March 9, 2022.

On Monday, Hickory needed a bit of extra time to put away Hibriten. They had just enough and edged out the Panthers 2-1.

South Point's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-3-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up three goals over those eight matchups. As for Hickory, their victory bumped their record up to 22-3-2.

South Point beat Hickory by a goal in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, winning 3-2. Will the Red Raiders repeat their success, or do the Red Tornadoes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
