Baseball Recap: Clover Hill Takes a Loss

Clover Hill managed to slip by Powhatan the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Cavaliers lost 13-4 to the Indians on Thursday. The Cavaliers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Keller Williams was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Carter Burcume made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Blake Spence also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Clover Hill's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Powhatan, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Clover Hill will head out on the road to take on Cosby at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Powhatan, they will be playing at home against Prince George at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games the Royals have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
