Basketball Recap: Houston County Comes Up Short

Houston County was the 67-42 winner over Cheatham County Central when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. The Fighting Irish took a 44-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cubs on Monday. The matchup marked the Fighting Irish's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Houston County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ryan Carter dropped a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Carter is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last 24 games he's played dating back to last season. Brayden Self was another key player, putting up seven points and six boards.

Houston County has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Cheatham County Central, the win snapped their losing streak at eight games and leaves them with a 2-9 record.
