Basketball Recap: Rock Canyon Starts off Right with Win over Broomfield + How To Watch

Rock Canyon gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Broomfield Eagles as they made off with a 76-54 victory. For the Jaguars, this counts as revenge for the 74-65 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2024.

Rock Canyon was led to victory by Jacob David and Cooper Ellwood. David went 9-for-18 en route to 25 points and seven rebounds, while Ellwood almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Ellwood a new career-high in assists (six). Another player making a difference was Kai Valentine, who posted seven points along with 11 rebounds and five blocks.

Rock Canyon was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Broomfield only racked up eight.

Broomfield's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brandon Hastings, who shot 42% from the field to rack up 15 points and three steals. Kolt Smith was another key player, putting up 14 points and seven boards.

Rock Canyon has already played their next game, a 75-69 victory against Bingham on the 4th. As for Broomfield, they will square off against Mountain Range at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
