Softball Game Preview: Elkhart Lions vs. Concord Minutemen

Elkhart has gone a perfect 4-0 against Concord recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Lions will square off against the Minutemen at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Elkhart is headed out to face Concord after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. The Lions came out on top against Fairfield by a score of 4-1 last Tuesday.

Laci Stimac was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Ava Walker was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Gabby Wagner was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Meanwhile, Concord had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over Jimtown on Tuesday.

Allison Ralston spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.

At the plate, Concord saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cassi Reames, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. Another was Laela Moore, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

Elkhart took their win against Concord in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
