Softball Recap: Independence Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Independence ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They skirted past the Harker Eagles 7-6. The win was nothing new for the 76ers as they're now sitting on nine straight.

Julieta Ramirez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over eight innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Laila Morales and Ava Sanchez did most of the damage at the plate: Morales went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double, while Sanchez scored a run while going 1-for-2. That double marked the first that Morales hit this season.

Independence's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Harker, they moved to 5-2 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Coming up, Independence is taking a road trip to challenge Evergreen Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Harker, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mercy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.73 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
