Basketball Recap: North Platte Comes Up Short

If North Platte was feeling good fresh off their 58-8 takedown of Omaha South last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The North Platte Bulldogs were dealt a 66-29 defeat at the hands of the Millard North Mustangs on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 157th, while the Mustangs are ranked fifth).

Millard North's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Avril Smith, who posted six points along with eight boards and three blocks. What's more, Smith posted four assists, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sara Harley, who earned 12 points and three steals.

North Platte has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season. The win was the third in a row for Millard North, bringing their record for this year to 21-3.

North Platte does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Millard North, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 61-39 victory against Papillion-LaVista on the 28th.
