Basketball Recap: Fairmont Beats Pinecrest for Their Sixth Straight Victory

Fairmont waltzed into their matchup on Monday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They strolled past the Pinecrest Patriots with points to spare, taking the game 51-36. Given the Golden Tornadoes' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Patriots are ranked 177th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fairmont to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shaniah Smith, who posted 12 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Taniya Simms was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 15 boards.

Fairmont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Pinecrest saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kennedy Moore went 8 for 17 en route to 23 points and three steals. Moore is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played.

Fairmont's record is now 14-1. As for Pinecrest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.

Fairmont will welcome West Bladen at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Fairmont is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.7 points per game this season. Pinecrest has already played their next contest (against Richmond), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
