Baseball Game Preview: San Lorenzo Valley Cougars vs. Aptos Mariners

San Lorenzo Valley is 0-9-1 against Aptos since April of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The Cougars will host the Mariners at 4:00 p.m.

San Lorenzo Valley is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Tuesday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Aptos.

For Aptos' part, Alec Mendoza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up ten Ks. Mendoza has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dom Castillo, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Garcia, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Aptos hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Lorenzo Valley struck out nine times.

Aptos has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for San Lorenzo Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-14.
