Recap: Fluvanna County Flying Flucos vs. Monticello Mustangs

The Fluvanna County Flying Flucos were the 68-50 winner over the Monticello Mustangs when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. Fluvanna County might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Monticello an easy 71-45 victory. While losing is never fun, Fluvanna County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 274th, while Monticello is ranked 83rd).

Despite the loss, Fluvanna County still got an impressive performance from Ikeena Spruill, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. Reagan Wood was another key contributor, scoring six points.

Monticello was led to victory by Samantha Shifflett and Dylan Wood. Shifflett scored 22 points, while Wood scored 28 points along with three steals. Shifflett continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Branche, who scored eight points along with three steals.

Fluvanna County are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4. As for Monticello, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fluvanna County will be home for the holidays to greet Madison County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Monticello will be home for the holidays to greet Fort Defiance at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fort Defiance is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
