Basketball Game Preview: New Braunfels Unicorns vs. Canyon Cougars

The New Braunfels Unicorns and the Canyon Cougars will round out the year against one another at at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. New Braunfels has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

New Braunfels took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They took down Boerne-Champion 57-42.

Alyana Mcgarity and Ryler Wilson were among the main playmakers for New Braunfels as the former posted 17 points and five rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. The match was Mcgarity's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexy Lundegreen, who had five points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

New Braunfels smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Canyon played in conference for the first time on Friday and they got just the result they we're looking for. It was close, but they ultimately received the gift of a 46-43 victory from a begrudging Cougars squad. The win made it back-to-back victories for they.

Canyon's win bumped their record up to 14-9. As for New Braunfels, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-11.
