Baseball Preview: Montgomery Vikings vs. Piner Prospectors        
        
		
            For the first time this season, Montgomery will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will host the Piner Prospectors  at 4:00  p.m.  on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their  contests after big wins in their previous games.
Montgomery took a loss when they played away from home  on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed  on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by  a  21-5 margin over Salesian College Preparatory. The Vikings' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most  runs they've scored all season.
Montgomery got a  massive  performance out of  Justin Howard, who  scored four  runs and  stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Howard also  hit a  double, marking his first of the season.  Chace Russell was another key player,  scoring three  runs and  stealing three bases while  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances.
 Montgomery  always had someone on base and  finished the game having  posted an OBP of .622. That's the best  OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Piner never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They blew past Salesian College Preparatory 10-0. The  win was a breath of fresh air for the Prospectors as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
  Kellan Stiles was  excellent,  scoring two  runs and  stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Piner is 2-1 when  Stiles posts two or  more  runs, but 0-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of  Anthony Cordoza, who  scored two  runs while  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances.
 Piner's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Montgomery, their  win (their first of the  season) made their record 1-4.
 Everything went Montgomery's way against Piner in their previous matchup  back in April of 2024, as Montgomery made off with  a  7-1 victory. Will Montgomery repeat their success,  or does  Piner has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
