Recap: Highland Tech Rams vs. Shelby Golden Lions
The Highland Tech Rams won the last time they faced the Shelby Golden Lions, and things went their way on Friday too. Highland Tech skirted past Shelby 38-36.
Highland Tech's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Akela Taylor, who scored 11 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Taylor continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie McCraw, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 rebounds.
Shelby's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dereon Kee, who scored 14 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Jamiah Hopper, who scored ten points.
Highland Tech has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Shelby, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highland Tech will take on Cherryville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cherryville is coming into the game with four straight losses on the road, meaning Highland Tech will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for Shelby, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bessemer City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in North Carolina (Bessemer City is ranked 344th, while Shelby is ranked 357th).
