Baseball Recap: Ephrata Wins Going Away Against South Western

Ephrata came out on top against South Western on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run first inning. The Mountaineers were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Mustangs. The result was nothing new for the Mountaineers, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Nathan Savage made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Ethan Hunt was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Landry Weidner, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Ephrata has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for South Western, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-16 record this season.

Ephrata will take on Penn Manor at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Mountaineers are facing the Comets at the right time seeing as the Comets are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for South Western, they will host West York Area at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
