The Buffalo Grove Bison will challenge the Mundelein Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
Buffalo Grove heads in on the heels of a playoff match on Wednesday. They lost 10-0 to Libertyville. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bison have suffered against the Wildcats since April 3, 2019.
Buffalo Grove saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Erin Ryan, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mundelein, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. Everything went their way against Highland Park on Tuesday as they made off with a 10-1 win. Considering the Mustangs have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sophia Zepeda spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 16 Ks.
At the plate, Mundelein let Kieley Tomas and Taylor Pyke run wild. Tomas went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double, while Pyke went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Pyke a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Claire Connelly, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Mundelein was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland Park only posted a batting average of .160.
Mundelein pushed their record up to 21-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Buffalo Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-16.
