Softball Recap: Huntingdon Gets the Win

Huntingdon proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by eight) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Tyrone Golden Eagles. For the Bearcats, this counts as revenge for the 9-6 victory the Golden Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Alivia Nicklow spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Huntingdon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julia Foster, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was Foster's first of the season.

Huntingdon has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Tyrone, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Huntingdon will square off against Chestnut Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bearcats 1, the Lions 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Tyrone, they will challenge Punxsutawney at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
