Volleyball Recap: Wagner Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Wagner had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Vermillion Tanagers on Thursday. The Red Raiders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Tanagers, too.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17.

Hannah Holzbauer paced Wagner's offense, picking up 15 kills. Holzbauer got some help from Braxton Nedved and her 32 assists. Nedved was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Vermillion is on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wagner will take on Parkston in a tournament on Saturday. As for Vermillion, they will venture away from home to face off against South Sioux City on Tuesday.
