Baseball Recap: Lawrence County Starts Season with Win Against Mendenhall

Lawrence County took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. They put the hurt on the Mendenhall Tigers with a sharp 11-1 victory. This was payback for the Cougars, who suffered a 5-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Caden Case was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hunter Turner, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Grey Boyd was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars challenge the Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mendenhall has already played their next game (against Richland), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
