Basketball Recap: Millers Creek Christian Triumphs

It's playoff time, and Millers Creek Christian had no trouble coming through when it counted. They came out on top against the Sheets Memorial Christian Eagles by a score of 35-26 on Tuesday. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 24-17 victory last Monday.

Millers Creek Christian found their leader in freshman Kate Bivins, who posted 20 points and three steals. Bivins has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mattie Layaou, who put up four points and five boards.

Clara Lopez and Taylor Williamson certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Lopez earned four points and five rebounds, while Williamson scored six points. The dominant performance gave Williamson a new career-high in points.

The win made it two in a row for Millers Creek Christian and bumps their season record up to 5-12. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-20 Sheets Memorial Christian and 2-18 Sheets Memorial Christian. As for Sheets Memorial Christian, their defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-20.

Looking ahead, Millers Creek Christian will head out to square off against The Fletcher School at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sheets Memorial Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
