Basketball Recap: York Comes Up Short

York played a tough matchup on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 80-51 loss at the hands of the Lancaster Bruins. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while the Bruins are ranked third).

Defeat or not, York got some senior leadership from Christian Smith and Jackson Rampey. Smith went 8 for 13 on his way to 19 points, while Rampey went 5 of 9 en route to 13 points and six boards. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for Rampey.

Lancaster's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Watford, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. The game was Watford's 16th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Columbus Parker, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 21 points.

York is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-19. As for Lancaster, the win (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 19-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. York has already played their next contest (against Camden), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Lancaster will square off against South Pointe at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Lancaster knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 20 matchups -- so hopefully South Pointe likes a good challenge.
