Softball Preview: Courtland Cougars vs. Eastern View Cyclones

Courtland and Eastern View are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Courtland Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Eastern View Cyclones at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Eastern View is hoping to do on Thursday what James Monroe couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to Courtland's winning streak, which now stands at four games. Courtland was the clear victor by a 20-8 margin over James Monroe.

Makayla Brooks made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Brooks was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with five RBI.

In other batting news, Olivia Roudabush was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and a stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlyn Malie, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Like Courtland, Eastern View also got a great game from a two-way player: Cailin Rendell. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Rendell has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive pitching appearances. Rendell was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Carly Corbin was incredible, going 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now stolen at least one in the last three games she's played. Sara Hopper was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Courtland's record now sits at 9-6. As for Eastern View, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster.
