Basketball Recap: Shawnee Takes a Loss

Shawnee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They lost 77-56 to the Cobden Appleknockers. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Appleknockers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 46-42 loss back in January.

Despite the defeat, Shawnee saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kyler Jewell dropped a double-double with 26 points and 11 boards. What's more, Jewell posted three assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Mayberry, who had 14 points and six rebounds.

Shawnee's loss dropped their record down to 2-24. As for Cobden, their victory bumped their record up to 13-16.

Shawnee didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 90-35 defeat against Goreville on the 24th. As for Cobden, they have also already played their next matchup, a 73-31 loss against Cairo on the 24th.
