Weslaco had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Edinburg North Cougars a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Panthers have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Diego Castillo's shutout, as he gave up just a hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Toby Perez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. He has been hot recently, having also posted at least one triple the last three times he's played. Avel Salinas was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Weslaco always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edinburg North only posted an OBP of .176.

Weslaco pushed their record up to 14-6-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Edinburg North, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-20 record this season.

Weslaco and Edinburg North could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Panthers (ranked 300th) will meet Pharr-San Juan-Alamo (ranked 16th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Edinburg North will challenge La Joya at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (1178 vs. 233).
