Softball Game Preview: Chatham Charter Knights vs. Clover Garden School Grizzlies

The Chatham Charter Knights will head out to challenge the Clover Garden School Grizzlies at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Chatham Charter has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Chatham Charter lost 12-2 to North Moore on Wednesday. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Clover Garden School made easy work of Cornerstone Charter on Wednesday and carried off a 17-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the Grizzlies, who have now won nine matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Brandi Markham made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over 5.1 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Cadence Collins was a standout: she scored four runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Wilson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Clover Garden School was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .324 or higher in eight consecutive contests.

Clover Garden School has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Chatham Charter, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Chatham Charter suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Clover Garden School in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
