Baseball Game Preview: Proviso West Panthers vs. Oak Park-River Forest Huskies

Proviso West hasn't had much luck against Oak Park-River Forest recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Panthers will welcome the Huskies at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Saturday, Proviso West needed a bit of extra time to put away Proviso East. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pirates, sneaking past 9-8. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Jayden Caston tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over 7.1 innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Logan Komperda was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sergio Loera, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Proviso West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Oak Park-River Forest entered their tilt with Downers Grove South on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Mustangs 7-5.

Oak Park-River Forest's victory bumped their record up to 16-7. As for Proviso West, their win bumped their record up to 5-14.
