Softball Game Preview: Nazareth Area Blue Eagles vs. Pocono Mountain East Cardinals

The Nazareth Area Blue Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Pocono Mountain East Cardinals at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Nazareth Area is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.

If Nazareth Area beats Pocono Mountain East with nine runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Blue Eagles blew past Northampton 9-3 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Blue Eagles, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Kylie Grover spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on two hits and racked up ten Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Taylor Friel was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Emma Infantino was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Nazareth Area kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Pocono Mountain East never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on East Stroudsburg North with a sharp 15-0 win.

Nazareth Area's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Pocono Mountain East, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6.

Nazareth Area took their win against Pocono Mountain East in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 9-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
