Football Recap: Corner Canyon Wins High-Profile Contest Against American Fork

Corner Canyon faced American Fork in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Chargers strolled past the Cavemen with points to spare, taking the game 37-21. The win continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Cavemen: they've now won eight in a row.

Helaman Casuga was his usual excellent self, throwing for 274 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also rushing for 51 yards and two scores on only six carries. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (156). Corner Canyon also got help from Isaiah Morris, who showed off his sure hands for 110 receiving yards.

American Fork lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Prince Afu, who rushed for 159 yards. Another signal caller making a difference was Nate Childs, who threw for 125 yards and one TD.

Corner Canyon's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for American Fork, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.

Corner Canyon wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 56-3 win against Lehi on the 15th. As for American Fork, they have also already played their next matchup, a 26-14 defeat against Skyridge on the 15th.
