Basketball Game Preview: Atlanta Hornets vs. Marion County Mustangs

Atlanta and Marion County are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Atlanta Hornets will head out on the road to take on the Marion County Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Atlanta has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests.

If Atlanta beats Marion County with 54 points on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. Atlanta came out on top in a nail-biter against Putnam County on Wednesday, sneaking past 54-51. That's two games straight that the Hornets have won by exactly three points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marion County). They blew past Madison 75-16 last Thursday. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 21 points or more this season.

Marion County has also been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Atlanta, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.

Atlanta came up short against Marion County when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 57-50. Can Atlanta avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
