Basketball Recap: Jayli Lockhart's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Genoa-Hugo/Karval over Cheyenne Wells

Genoa-Hugo/Karval was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 43-29 to the Cheyenne Wells Tigers. The Pirates were probably out for revenge after losing 43-40 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayli Lockhart, who posted eight points and four steals. Those four steals gave Lockhart a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rylee Corn, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Paige Ryser continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cheyenne Wells, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Ryser is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last ten games she's played. Aubry Carroll was another key player, going 5 of 9 on her way to 10 points.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Cheyenne Wells, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-47 loss against Fleming on the 28th. As for Cheyenne Wells, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 44-34 defeat against Greeley County on the 28th.
