Carlsbad waltzed into their match on Wednesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They blew past the Del Norte Nighthawks 3-0. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Lancers also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-13, 25-13.

Roman Payne paced Carlsbad's offense, picking up 13 kills. Payne got some help from Ben Sauerwine and his 26 assists. Sauerwine was also solid from the service line: he led the team with four aces.

When it comes to explaining why Del Norte lost, don't look at Brandon So. Despite the final result, he had 11 digs. So has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more digs the last three times he's played.

Carlsbad pushed their record up to 25-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. As for Del Norte, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season.

Carlsbad and Del Norte should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Carlsbad will face off against Poway at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday up 67 places (4 vs. 71). Meanwhile, Del Norte (ranked 100th) will meet Otay Ranch (ranked 335th) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
