Softball Recap: Hayden Makes It Three in a Row at Home

Hayden lost to Mortimer Jordan back in March, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Wildcats walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Blue Devils. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Gracie Butler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Baylee Scott was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Kinslie Ireland was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hayden kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.6.

Hayden's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 27-17. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mortimer Jordan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-20 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hayden will host Cordova at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mortimer Jordan, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Leeds at 5:00 p.m.
