Basketball Recap: Marcos Colio's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mater Brickell Academy over Coral Park

Mater Brickell Academy played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 66-45 to the Coral Park Rams. While losing is never fun, the Bulls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 640th, while the Rams are ranked 278th).

Mater Brickell Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Marcos Colio, who posted 12 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonio Medina, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 boards.

Even though they lost, Mater Brickell Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Coral Park was led to victory by Angel Lara and Jeremias Jimenez. Lara went 11 of 25 on his way to 28 points along with six rebounds and four steals, while Jimenez went 5 for 10 en route to 15 points and eight boards. Lara is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Alejandro Camacho, who had ten points.

Mater Brickell Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season. As for Coral Park, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mater Brickell Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Palmer Trinity at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Palmer Trinity is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.9 points per game this season. As for Coral Park, they will take on Jackson at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Coral Park knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Jackson likes a good challenge.
