Baseball Recap: Middletown South Comes Up Short

Middletown South was the 13-8 winner over Colts Neck when they last played one another back in May of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Eagles fell 14-10 to the Cougars on Monday.

Middletown South got a good showing from Michael Gough, who tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Gough a new career-low.

On the hitting side, Jack Concordia was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Pat Dempsey also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Middletown South has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. As for Colts Neck, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Middletown South will take on Wall Township at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Colts Neck, they will venture away from home to challenge Toms River East at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
