Preview: Yorktown Patriots vs. Westfield Bulldogs
Yorktown is 0-4 against Westfield since November of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Yorktown Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Westfield Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Yorktown had no problem doing just that on Friday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 7-6 victory over South Lakes. The win was all the more spectacular given Yorktown's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 88th, while South Lakes is ranked 32nd).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Yorktown to victory, but perhaps none more so than Chris Montecino, who picked up 130 receiving yards and a touchdown. Montecino was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 69 yards. Finn Luca also helped out as he racked up 120 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Westfield put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on Washington-Liberty with a sharp 30-7 win.
Yorktown has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Westfield, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
Yorktown couldn't quite finish off Westfield in their previous meeting back in September of 2022 and fell 20-17. Can Yorktown avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
