Football Recap: Costa Mesa Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Costa Mesa unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 18-6 to the Portola Bulldogs on Tuesday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it nine in a row.

Emma Freeland threw for 99 yards and one TD. Sierra Kelly was her top target, picking up 72 receiving yards.

Portola has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Coming up, Costa Mesa will challenge Whitney at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Portola, they will face off against Beckman at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
