Basketball Recap: St. Croix Falls Starts Season with Loss at Home

St. Croix Falls unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They took an 84-74 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hayward Hurricanes on Thursday. The Saints were up 53-37 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Hayward's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lucas Hansen led the charge by putting up 25 points. Those 25 points gave Hansen a new career-high. Caleb Springer was another key player, earning 20 points.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. St. Croix Falls is set to take on their familiar foe Ladysmith at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hayward will challenge rival Barron at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
