Softball Game Preview: Union Catholic Vikings vs. Dayton Bulldogs

The Union Catholic Vikings will head out to face off against the Dayton Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Union Catholic was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Oak Knoll on Saturday. The Vikings blew past the Royals 21-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Dayton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Everything went their way against Westfield on Friday as they made off with a 13-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won four in a row.

Dayton pushed their record up to 2-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Union Catholic, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Union Catholic suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Dayton when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
