Baseball Recap: Homestead Triumphs

The Homestead Mustangs were able to grind out a solid win over the Hillsdale Fighting Knights on Saturday, taking the game 7-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Clay Bussey was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has become a key player for Homestead: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise. Bussey was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Andrew Sun was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Homestead is undefeated when Sun posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise.

Homestead hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in three consecutive matchups.

The victory got Homestead back to even at 6-6. As for Hillsdale, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

Coming up, Homestead will face off against Milpitas at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Milpitas has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.11 runs per game on average), something Homestead will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hillsdale, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Burlingame at 4:00 p.m. on April 9.
