Baseball Recap: Baldwin Extends Winning Streak to Four

Baldwin hadn't done well against Sandalwood recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Indians beat the Mighty Saints by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 4-3. Winning may never get old, but the Indians sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Chase Staley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Zain Gillespie looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Turner Farah, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. He has become a key player for Baldwin: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one home run, but 9-10 otherwise. Cayden Smith also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Baldwin's record now sits at 13-10. As for Sandalwood, they moved to 15-7 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Baldwin will venture away from home to square off against Trinity Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sandalwood, they will head out to challenge University Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Mighty Saints' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Christians have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
