Softball Recap: Friday Harbor Takes a Loss

Friday Harbor dropped their record down to 6-11 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 11-4 to the Granite Falls Tigers. The Wolverines were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in April of 2023.

As for Granite Falls, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games.

For Granite Falls' part, Bella Frye was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Frye has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addy Haverfield, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Ryan Thelen was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Friday Harbor will host La Conner at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Braves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.83 runs per game on average), something the Wolverines will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Granite Falls, they will head out on the road to challenge Coupeville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolves will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
