Baseball Game Preview: Pueblo West Cyclones vs. Pine Creek Eagles

For the second straight game, Pueblo West will face off against Pine Creek. The Cyclones will head out to face off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pueblo West will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Pueblo West is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over Pine Creek on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Jaiven Baca was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Baca was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Pueblo West let Cam Mares and Trace Humphrey run wild. Mares scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Humphrey scored a run while going 2-for-2. Humphrey also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Pueblo West is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was JoJo Mendoza, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Pueblo West is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Pine Creek, they moved to 4-2 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pueblo West has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pine Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts.
